DxOMark released the results of Huawei P40 Pro's screen evaluation this week, and the final score was 85 points, ranking fifth in the overall screen list. DxOMark commented on it as "first-class motion control".
The Huawei P40 Pro was launched in late March this year. It is positioned between the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro +. It is equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset, 8GB of memory, and 128, 256 or 512GB of storage space. It runs EMUI 10.1 (based on the Android 10 operating system) and has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.
IT Home learned that the phone uses a 6.58-inch OLED screen with a size of 158.2 x 72.6 x 9 mm (6.23 x 2.86 x 0.35 inches), a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 91.6%, a resolution of 1200 x 2640 pixels (approximately 441 ppi), and supports a 90Hz refresh rate.
DXO said: "The Huawei P40 Pro scored 85 points in our screen test, ranking high in the screen rankings, and its score is slightly higher than that of Apple's iPhone 11 Pro Max launched last year."
DXO pointed out several shortcomings of the phone’s screen, such as “the screen display is too dark and looks uncomfortable”, “it performs only slightly better than the Apple iPhone 12 Pro with the blue light filter enabled”, “outdoors, the P40 Pro screen brightness is seriously insufficient”, and “in the sun, the details in the darker parts of the P40 Pro image are almost indistinguishable”.
DXO says that color performance is generally good in still images. However, what really makes it stand out is its excellent performance in motion tests. The phone controls motion blur very well and can play videos instantaneously. However, its performance on touch is a bit limited.
DXO Conclusion
While the Huawei P40 Pro controls motion well and has acceptable color overall, these strengths may not be enough to make up for issues with aliasing artifacts, touch accuracy, and smoothness, especially when using a dimmer-than-normal brightness setting. This lack of screen brightness affects screen readability both indoors and outdoors, and weighs heavily on the device’s Video score.
