Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Actively consider incorporating 5G, integrated circuits, etc. into the "14th Five-Year Plan" special plan

On October 26, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated in a letter in response to Proposal No. 2524 of the Third Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference that in the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will actively consider incorporating key areas such as 5G, integrated circuits, and biomedicine into the "14th Five-Year Plan" national special plan, further guide enterprises to break through core technologies, rely on major scientific and technological projects, high-quality manufacturing development projects, etc. to strengthen key core technology and product research, strengthen international cooperation in the technology field, and effectively solve the "bottleneck" problem, providing strong support for building a modern economic system and achieving high-quality economic development.

Regarding the transformation from "Made in China" to "Smart Manufacturing in China", the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it will accelerate the construction of 5G networks and improve 5G business models and business applications. In the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will coordinate the promotion of new infrastructure technology innovation, facility deployment, industry applications and publicity and guidance, continue to promote the integration and empowerment of information technology with traditional infrastructure such as transportation and energy, and continuously improve the level of informatization development. Promote the implementation of a number of major informatization projects, accelerate the innovative development of the industrial Internet, collect a number of IoT projects with advanced technology and outstanding demonstration effects, promote the integrated innovation and large-scale development of the IoT, and create a good environment for the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also stated that the next step will be to expand and upgrade information consumption, accelerate the research and development and industrialization of products such as smart wearable devices, virtual/augmented reality, ultra-high-definition terminal equipment, consumer drones, and smart connected vehicles, build a number of vertical e-commerce platforms, and cultivate new business forms and models for the integrated development of information consumption based on the Internet.
