According to Reuters, British Digital Minister Caroline Dinenage said that the UK is evaluating the impact of selling chip design company Arm to US company Nvidia, including the latter's commitment to keep Arm's headquarters and employees in Cambridge in eastern England.
Earlier she told lawmakers: "We are now in the process of understanding the full impact of this move and its potential impact on the future, and from there we can consider what steps to take."
Nvidia, the largest chip company in the United States by market value, has agreed to buy ARM from Japan's SoftBank for $40 billion.
Dinirch said ministers would consider commitments made by SoftBank and Nvidia to keep Arm a British company and that the government had already held discussions with the relevant parties.
She said the decision on whether to intervene in the deal would be made by the secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport after considering the relevant information.
