As one of the exhibitors, Hefei Jiantian Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Jiantian Electronics") brought chips, application solutions, fiber optic vital signs sensors and a variety of design chain solutions to the Shenzhen International Electronics Show. Han Zhengqi, CEO of Jiantian Electronics, predicted in an exclusive interview with Jiwei.com: "In the future, the development trend of MCU technology will move from consumer to low power consumption, security and industry ASIC, while industrial control and automotive will move towards high reliability, security and general purpose."
The general MCU series can be widely used in various intelligent terminals
It is understood that Jiantian Electronics is a high-tech enterprise focusing on the development of digital-analog hybrid chips, fiber optic sensors, and AIoT system products. It currently has three categories of products: smart chips, sensors, and AIoT systems. Among them, the main chip products are 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit MCU chips and AI MCU chips, which have been widely used in wireless charging, printing, smart home, GPS intercom, human-computer interaction (screen), motion control, artificial intelligence and other fields. At the same time, it provides Turnkey services of chips + solutions (such as wireless charging and TWS charging warehouse solutions) according to customer needs.
The products exhibited by Jiantian Electronics at the International Electronics Show are centered around low-power MCUs, fiber-optic intelligent vital signs sensors, flexible bending sensors and data gloves, as well as corresponding signal conditioning and high-performance analog chips. The above products are mainly used in screen interaction, IoT, and the field of big health, medical rehabilitation.
Among them, the high-performance, low-power general-purpose MCU series launched by Jiantian Electronics can be widely used in various types of smart terminals, including access control systems/alarms, temperature sensing equipment, Bluetooth speakers, electric vehicle meters, digital voltmeters, gas detector collectors, chargers, beauty instruments, small appliances, medical and handheld devices, PC game peripherals and toys, model airplanes, printers and scanners, wireless charging and other smart devices.
In addition, fiber optic intelligent vital signs sensor products, including smart health pillows and mattresses, can record and analyze sleep cardiopulmonary data, and are suitable for people of all ages and special groups, realizing the data-based and intelligent monitoring, evaluation and rehabilitation of vital signs such as sleep, elderly care, prisons, and cardiopulmonary medical care. Compared with piezoelectric sensors, in terms of interference, piezoelectric sensors have poor anti-interference and anti-radiation capabilities, while fiber optic sensors have better anti-interference and lightning performance; in terms of static force perception, piezoelectric cannot detect static force, but can only detect force changes, that is, dynamic force; in general, fiber optic sensors are superior to piezoelectric sensors in performance.
The IoT era drives MCUs toward low power consumption
As we all know, chips are the "industrial food" of modern society. MCU is a chip-level computer that integrates CPU, memory (RAM and ROM) and multiple I/O interfaces on a single chip. From the development trend of MCU, early MCUs were mostly 8-bit. With the advent of the IoT era and the increasing demand for computing power in the downstream market, MCU, as the core component of the Internet of Things, has been further developed in market scale and technical requirements, prompting MCU to move towards 16 and 32 bits. In the field of IoT, Jiantian Electronics has entered the field from touch and voice AI chips, providing chip and algorithm solutions for smart terminal product solution providers such as 3C and home appliances.
Han Zhengqi said that the biggest feature of the IoT field is the strong demand for low power consumption. Currently, Jiantian Electronics' MCU products are also differentiated in low power consumption, while combining sensors to create IoT scenarios. In this field, Jiantian Electronics combines sensor algorithms and makes layouts in low power consumption, HPA, connectivity, sensors, and AI edge computing.
He predicted that the future development trend of MCU technology will be from consumer to low power consumption, security and industry ASIC, while industrial control and automotive will be towards high reliability, security and general purpose.
In response to the above development trends, Jiantian Electronics will follow the 2.0 development route in the future and make differentiated products. "In the future, we will focus on deepening our layout in the fields of screen interaction, IoT and big health. We will go down around the differentiated goals and bring fulfilling and premium products to customers and the market," said Han Zhengqi.
Domestic MCU has a long way to go
Recently, industry insiders stated at the "2020 Global MCU Technology and Application Summit" that foreign MCU manufacturers currently monopolize high-profit areas such as industrial control, automotive electronics and the Internet of Things market, while domestic MCU manufacturers are mainly concentrated in mid- and low-end application areas such as consumer electronics, smart cards, and water, electricity, and gas meters.
In terms of the market, domestic MCU applications are currently concentrated in low-end and mid-range electronic products, while the automotive grade and other high-end product markets are still dominated by foreign companies. As for the current situation, Han Zhengqi believes that the gap between domestic and foreign manufacturers lies in: on the one hand, domestic chip manufacturers do not have enough understanding of the market and industry, and their accumulation of technology; on the other hand, domestic manufacturers are eager to speed up and always want to overtake on the curve, but in fact, haste makes waste. He emphasized that domestic manufacturers must lower their expectations, be down-to-earth, respect details and science, and accumulate slowly over time.
So how can Chinese MCU companies break out of the competition in the low-end product market and low gross profit margin? Han Zhengqi said frankly: "In general, we still need to sink into the industry and make differentiated products." From the perspective of Jiantian Electronics, to avoid homogeneity, we must take the 2.0 development route and bring customers truly premium and competitive products. In addition, under the "dual-wheel drive" of building the market and technology, following market trends, forming a first-class technical R&D team, and realizing differentiated products required by the market are also issues that domestic MCU or chip manufacturers need to think about.
In general, it is not easy for Chinese manufacturers to localize MCU. It took foreign companies nearly 10 to 20 years to move into the high-end market. Therefore, Chinese manufacturers still need time to accumulate and explore. While following market trends, they must also have differentiated product outputs. On the road to localizing MCU, Chinese companies have a long way to go.
