On the morning of July 30, Qualcomm shared its third-quarter earnings today and hinted that Apple's upcoming 5G iPhone may be delayed. Qualcomm said its fourth-quarter earnings expectations may be affected by the "delay in the release of global 5G flagship phones."
Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala called the delay “minor”:
"We are seeing some impact from the delays in flagship phone launches. We think it's a slight delay, with some products moving from the September quarter to the December quarter."
The fourth quarter covers July, August and September, and September is usually the month when Apple launches new smartphones. Given the timing of other smartphone launches and the size of Apple, even if Qualcomm did not explicitly mention the iPhone, it may be a sign of their concerns.
After Apple and Qualcomm reached a settlement last year, it was clear that Apple would use 5G chips produced by Qualcomm in its iPhone 12 series, and all models of the new products are expected to support 5G technology. However, the epidemic has become the biggest surprise this year. Previously, multiple news channels have indicated that Apple's iPhone release will be postponed for one month due to the ongoing global health crisis and travel restrictions.
This suggests that the iPhone will be launched in October instead of September. It is not clear whether all iPhones will be delayed. Apple may still launch the new iPhone in September as usual and release it later this year. The previous iPhone X and last year's iPhone XR were both in this way.
This year, many media or analysts believe that Apple will postpone the release or release of iPhone 12. The reason is the global instability caused by the epidemic.
According to previous rumors, the iPhone 12 series will be equipped with Apple's self-developed A14 processor built using 5nm technology. There will be four versions with different screen sizes, namely iPhone 12 (5.4 inches), iPhone 12 Plus (6.1 inches), iPhone 12 Pro (6.1 inches), and iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches) to cover more users.
