Apple's CPU R&D progress has always been ahead of the entire mobile phone industry, especially in the adoption of advanced processes. In addition to this year's A14 processor using the 5nm process, according to the latest news, Apple's CPU roadmap for the next few years has been completed. If nothing unexpected happens, the A18 processor with a 2nm process will be available in 2024, and the IPC of Apple's processors will increase by 15-30% each year in the next few years.

According to our previous reports, it is no surprise that this year's iPhone 12 series will use the A14 processor. The processor will use TSMC's 5nm process, and the new generation of iPad/iPad Pro will most likely use the A14X processor. As for Apple Watch, it will use the latest S6 processor.

If we follow the CPU plans that Apple has revealed so far, then in 2021, Apple will have a 5nm A15 for the iPhone, an S7 for the Apple Watch, and most likely an A14X / A15X for the iPad. If we extrapolate forward, in 2022, Apple will launch a 3nm A16 for the iPhone, an S8 for the Apple Watch, and possibly an A16X for the iPad.

By 2023, it will be the 3nm A17 for iPhone, S9 for Apple Watch, and possibly A17X for iPad. In 2024/2025, Apple will launch the 2nm A18 for iPhone, S10 for Apple Watch, and A17X/A18X for iPad. As for laptops and desktops, there will probably be corresponding updates every year. When new processors are continuously launched, Apple's devices will not only improve the corresponding battery life, but also greatly improve IPC performance.
