According to etnews, as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread around the world, the market is still struggling in the second quarter. Some predict that the new coronavirus will have a greater negative impact on the market, and global TV shipments this year will be less than 200 million units for the first time since 2010.

Market research firms Omdia and TrendForce previously estimated that global TV shipments this year would reach 203.5 million and 205.21 million units, respectively. If there were no impact from the coronavirus, this year's figure would have been 227.53 million units.

The report pointed out that as the world's largest TV market, China's sales in the first quarter of this year were below 10 million units for the first time in nine years, reaching 9.38 million units. Among them, Chinese TV manufacturers such as TCL, Hisense and Xiaomi accounted for only 32.5% of global TV shipments, lower than the 36.1% of Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Due to the outbreak, the shutdown of factories in China and the lack of sales in the domestic market have had a huge impact on the global TV market.

Although the epidemic prevention and control situation in China continues to improve, the epidemic situation in the United States, Europe, South America and Africa is still serious. According to reports, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, which performed well in the first quarter of this year, are expected to see a decline in sales in the second quarter.

据称,两家韩国公司4月份的销售额较去年同期显著下滑。

"Except for daily necessities, production, distribution and sales of most products, including TVs, have been cut off," a spokesman for a South Korean TV maker said, adding that sales this year are so bad that they cannot be compared with last year.

At the same time, an industry insider also said, "Considering the current situation of the global TV market, the forecasts of market research companies may change again. The possibility that global TV shipments will not reach 200 million this year is gradually increasing."
