According to THE ELEC, LG Electronics has been asked by the South Korean government to reconsider its plan to move its TV production line to Indonesia.
LG Electronics said on the 20th of this month that it will move two of the six TV production lines at its Gumi plant in South Korea to Indonesia by the end of this year. At the same time, the company said it plans to increase production capacity by 50% through this move to better serve Australia and other Asian markets. LG's Cibitong plant in Indonesia is expected to become its TV production base in Asia.
However, as the South Korean government encourages South Korean companies to return to the country, LG Electronics' move has also been hotly debated. Today, in a statement, Zhang Shilong, the mayor of Gumi City, South Korea, described its reconsideration of the production line relocation plan as "compassion for the Korean people."
Jang said LG Electronics is "the pride of Gumi City," and stressed that the city has supported the company since 1974.
Zhang Shilong said he hopes LG will reconsider the plan and continue to participate in a new plan formulated by the city to make Gumi a "smart industrial park" after the outbreak of the new crown epidemic. Although LG Electronics has not yet made a statement, this slightly touching statement may become a variable in the company's production line relocation plan.
