While manufacturers are equipping smartphones with larger screens, they are also actively increasing the screen-to-body ratio, and the use of curved screens has naturally become the first choice for many manufacturers. Curved screens bring many benefits. First, they can visually increase the screen-to-body ratio, and second, they provide a smooth interactive experience in the hands.
Currently, curved screens are mainly on the two sides, but the latest patent applied by Samsung outlines a smartphone with curved screens on all four sides. The metal frame is still retained at the four corners to improve the overall sturdiness.
The design patent was filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) in July 2019 and published on March 24, 2020. It was subsequently included in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) Global Design Database. The same design was registered in South Korea a few months ago.
The patent contains 7 patent images and a brief description. In order to better understand the patent design, Jermaine Smit, a designer from the popular YouTube channel Concept Creator, created a series of 3D renderings for LetsGoDigital based on the patent drawings.
As can be seen from the pictures, this Samsung smartphone adopts a borderless design. In addition to the left and right sides, the top and bottom are designed with curved screens. This creates a symmetrical design with a futuristic look and feel.
There is no front camera on the front of the phone, and foreign media speculate that it may be equipped under the screen like the under-screen fingerprint sensor. If the patented design of the phone becomes a reality, it will be an elegant, particularly rounded design, and a completely symmetrical design.
