Himax Technologies announced on the 7th that it has launched the industry's first advanced artificial intelligence edge computing (Edge AI) chip, WiseEye WE-I Plus, which has a built-in AI accelerator, machine learning functions, intelligent image detection and voice recognition. It allows developers to develop neural network-like machine learning on the chip platform and apply it to IoT products including smart home appliances and smart monitoring systems.
Himax pointed out that the WiseEye WE-I Plus chip uses a programmable processor, supports enhanced digital signal processing functions, and has built-in hardware acceleration modules such as CDM, HOG and JPEG, supporting real-time motion detection, object detection, and image processing.
To meet the security protection needs of developers' IoT products, the chip provides software and hardware integrated security protection solutions, including secure boot, download technology upgrades through a secure real-time network, and data transmission through the TLS network security protocol. In order to achieve ultra-low power consumption and longer battery life, the chip is equipped with a linear regulator and a power management unit to support computing modes such as suspended operation, full-time sensing, and efficient computer vision.
Himax CEO Wu Bingchang said that after launching the WiseEye WE-I Plus chip platform, it has received positive responses from industry leaders and partners. Currently, the industry's demand for edge computing products that use batteries and have AI smart sensing functions is growing rapidly, especially in smart home appliances, door locks, TVs, laptops, or smart building control and security.
Himax also provides an easy-to-use software and hardware development kit, which allows developers to quickly import and implement their solutions in smart home appliances, monitoring systems, and smart IoT after evaluating the optimization of the WiseEye WE-I Plus chip platform, and accelerate product release schedules. The software and hardware development kit includes the WiseEye WE-I Plus chip, VGA/QVGA image sensor, human infrared sensor, temperature sensor, ambient light sensor, microphone, and LED.
At the same time, Himax also provides WiFi wireless network expansion boards and interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, etc., which are converted into USB interfaces and connected to the computer expansion board. In terms of software, Himax software and hardware development kits provide comprehensive machine learning and digital signal processing libraries, as well as easy-to-use programming environments and online simulators.
