Samsung Electronics said on September 6 that its first foldable screen smartphone Galaxy Fold with 5G technology will be available in South Korea from September 6. The company said the device is priced at 2.398 million won (about 1,977.47 U.S. dollars). Samsung also said on Thursday that it will also provide 5G and LTE versions of Galaxy Fold in some countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States in the future, but did not disclose the specific release date.
According to Phoenix Technology, Samsung Electronics' foldable phone Galaxy Fold has officially gone on sale in South Korea. Samsung said that the first batch of Galaxy Fold was sold out as soon as it was launched.
Although Samsung did not disclose the first-day sales of Galaxy Fold, industry sources estimate that the first batch of orders for Galaxy Fold is expected to be about 1,000 units, all of which were placed through South Korea's three major operators. This data does not include Galaxy Folds purchased by consumers through Samsung's online and offline stores.
Some early adopters who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold through SK Telecom and Korea Telecom on Thursday began receiving their phones on Friday. SK Telecom said the pre-order campaign was closed in just 15 minutes on Thursday.
It is understood that the Samsung Galaxy Fold has two displays, with a left-right folding design. The small screen is a 4.6-inch AMOLED screen with an aspect ratio of 21:9, and the main screen is 7.3 inches with an aspect ratio of 4.2:3, which can be used as a small tablet. In addition, the back of the phone is made of 3D curved glass, and there are four colors to choose from: Quantum Black, Night Mist Silver, Wonderland Green, and Interstellar Blue. However, only Quantum Black and Night Mist Silver are available in the United States.
In terms of configuration, the phone will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 flagship platform, 12GB memory + 512GB UFS 3.0 storage, 10MP + 8MP dual front cameras, with apertures of F/2.2 and F/1.9 respectively, and 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens (aperture of F/2.2) + 12MP wide-angle lens (supports OIS optical image stabilization) + 12MP telephoto lens at the back, supporting OIS optical image stabilization. The battery capacity is 4380mAh, and it supports side fingerprint recognition.
