According to the China Business Times, the packaging and testing giant Siliconware Precision Industries will lead Siliconware Precision Industries to invest in and set up an operating base in Suzhou, China, in order to win Huawei HiSilicon's huge 5G chip testing orders.
Sigurd established a factory in Wuxi a few years ago, but because the operation did not improve significantly and was in the red, it decided to close the Wuxi factory in 2015. In the following years, its investment was concentrated in the Taiwan factory.
However, with the explosion of demand for 5G and AI chips in China, TSMC, UMC, SMIC and other foundries have continued to increase their advanced process capacity. Under the guidance of Lin Wenbo, chairman of Siliconware Precision Industries, Siliconware Precision Industries will invest 1.5 billion yuan in Suzhou to build a test production line to jointly win the huge 5G chip packaging and testing order that Huawei HiSilicon will release next year. Huang Xingyang said that the investment project in China is already in progress and hopes to be able to go into mass production in the first quarter of next year.
