On August 26, GlobalFoundries filed multiple lawsuits in the United States and Germany, accusing TSMC of infringing its 16 patents. It is understood that the lawsuits have been submitted to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the U.S. Federal District Courts for Delaware and the Western District of Texas, and the courts in Düsseldorf and Mannheim, Germany.

At the same time as initiating the lawsuit, GlobalFoundries also requested that TSMC be prohibited from exporting infringing semiconductor products to the United States and Germany, which means that customers of TSMC's downstream electronics companies that use these products will be affected.

In addition, since the sales of TSMC's infringing semiconductor products may amount to tens of billions of dollars, GlobalFoundries is also seeking huge compensation from TSMC.

TSMC's senior director of corporate information department, Sun Youwen, said yesterday (26) that TSMC develops all its own technologies and respects all intellectual property rights and will not infringe on other people's patents. However, since the other party has filed a lawsuit and entered the judicial process, TSMC will provide favorable evidence to defend its rights.

TSMC emphasized that it is impossible to infringe on other parties' patents, otherwise it would be impossible for its technology to be ahead of the industry, but everything will be proven by judicial procedures, and TSMC is not in a position to make further comments.
