Recently, the latest data released by foreign research company Counterpoint showed that global smartphone sales have begun to decline, but shipments of smart feature phones have tripled since 2017 to 75 million units, and are likely to grow to 84 million units this year.
On the other hand, data from research firm We Are Social also shows that there are still 3.4 billion people in the world who have no access to Internet services, and their demand for traditional feature phones is still great. It can be seen that there is a reason for the counter-cyclical growth of smart feature phones.
It is understood that the feature phone Jio phone was promoted by Reliance Jio, a telecommunications company supported by India's richest man Mukesh Ambani. At present, Reliance Jio has sold more than 60 million Jio phone feature phones in India.
Counterpoint also predicts that the sales volume of feature phones will reach about 370 million units in the next three years, and the development prospects will even surpass those of smartphones. In response to this situation, many technology companies such as Google, Twitter and Facebook have begun to develop feature phone applications to make feature phones more powerful.
