Vivo R&D Director: The first batch of 5G mobile phones will cost less than 10,000 yuan

Economic Observer reporter Shen Yiran, intern reporter Wang Tongyue Regarding the price of the first batch of 5G mobile phones that will soon enter the market, Qin Fei, director of vivo5G R&D center, told the Economic Observer: "As far as vivo is concerned, the first batch of 5G mobile phones are at the high-end price level of the company's product line, but there is still room for decline in the future."

The first batch of 5G mobile phones are about to enter the market, and many domestic mobile phone manufacturers have entered the productization stage of 5G mobile phones. However, some people in the industry believe that the prices of the first batch of 5G mobile phones are relatively high because the industrial chain has not formed a scale effect. The reporter consulted public materials and learned that China Mobile had tendered to purchase domestic 5G mobile phone terminals for 5G testing. The purchase price was an average of 10,000 yuan per mobile phone. Vivo's 5G mobile phone was also on the purchase list.

Qin Fei said, "The cost of each unit of the initial test prototype is indeed close to 10,000 yuan, because some key components are customized and purchased from suppliers, but for the first batch of 5G mobile phones entering the market, the relevant components have reached mass production, so the price will not be so expensive."

Regarding the overall price level of 5G mobile phones on the market, Qin Fei believes that as 5G trial commercialization progresses to official commercialization in 2020, mobile phone prices will drop further, eventually reaching a price level of one thousand yuan.
