Ask a superconductivity question [Copy link]

Suppose a superconducting ring is made magnetic by an alternating magnetic field, which is theoretically caused by the circulation of electric current. If the temperature suddenly rises, will the current in the superconducting ring burn the superconductor?

Superconducting energy storage is the inductance of the air-core coil. The current economical strong magnet is only 20 Tesla, and the energy storage density is not as good as compressed air, not to mention compared with chemical batteries and flywheels.   Details Published on 2020-2-9 12:04

The original poster's superconducting ring "has magnetism", which means it stores a certain amount of energy. "Temperature rises", I guess the original poster means the ring's superconductivity disappears. Whether the ring will burn out after it has resistance depends on how much energy is stored in it. It is impossible to make a quantitative analysis based on the qualitative description that the ring "has magnetism".

Is that right?

Superconductivity has a critical current density. Considering the energy required to maintain ultra-low temperatures, it is not practical to use it for energy storage.
