On May 7, a consortium of several Japanese telecommunications companies recently issued a press release announcing the launch of an industry-leading 6G prototype device with a data transmission speed of 100Gbps and a transmission distance of up to 100 meters.

This transmission speed is 10 times the peak speed of 5G and more than 500 times the current download speed of ordinary 5G smartphones.

The alliance, which includes industry giants such as DOCOMO, NTT Corporation, NEC Corporation and Fujitsu, worked together to create a circular device that pushes the boundaries of wireless communications.

The prototype is currently in the experimental stage and is not yet ready for commercial deployment. The transition from 5G to 6G faces a series of challenges.

Currently, operators are vigorously promoting 5G networks, with a theoretical transmission speed of up to 10 Gbps. However, in actual scenarios, due to factors such as the use of higher frequency bands, there are shortcomings such as small coverage and limited ability to cross obstacles. The 6G network hopes to use higher frequency bands to overcome these limitations.
