On May 7, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) Bowei Terahertz Co., Ltd. released its independently developed terahertz communication system.
The terahertz communication system uses terahertz communication technology. It is an all-solid-state electronics communication transceiver system working in the terahertz frequency band. It is a real-time communication device designed for the "ultra-high-speed, low-latency" wireless transmission scenario of uncompressed video. The system provides sufficient wireless bandwidth and does not need to be transmitted in a compressed manner, which effectively saves the time spent on video compression and decompression, ensuring extremely low latency in video transmission; at the same time, it can meet the transmission requirements of multiple communication platforms and multiple communication protocols through expansion, and is compatible with the transmission of different communication application scenarios.
Terahertz waves are between microwaves and far-infrared light, in the transition zone from electronics to photonics, and have the characteristics of both microwave communication and optical communication. Compared with traditional communications, terahertz communication has a high rate and can support data transmission rates of tens to hundreds of Gbps; it has strong penetration and can communicate normally in harsh environments such as strong winds, dust and smoke; it has good confidentiality, and terahertz waves have strong directionality and better confidentiality; it has a short wavelength, and the antenna size is smaller than that of the microwave system, and the structure is simpler and more economical. All these technical advantages indicate that terahertz waves will be the key technology of the next generation 6G communication system.
Terahertz communication has broad application prospects. It can be integrated with drone image transmission, uncompressed ultra-high-definition video transmission, base station backhaul and other services, breaking the shortcomings of traditional ground emergency communication with limited speed and high latency, and is widely used in emergency rescue, telemedicine, and rapid dispatch of police emergencies. Terahertz band spectrum resources are rich, and the available spectrum bandwidth is several orders of magnitude higher than microwaves, which can be applied to intersatellite links in the future.
In the future 6G communications, terahertz communication technology will be integrated with other low-frequency band networks and widely used in various ground-based ultra-wideband communication scenarios without wires. It will also be carried on satellites, drones, airships and other platforms as a replacement for optical fiber cable communication equipment, and will be used for multi-dimensional integrated communications in the air, land, and sea, as well as multi-scale communications from macro to micro.
