Monaco achieved full 5G coverage on the 9th local time. This was achieved by Monaco Telecom, the largest telecommunications operator in Monaco, through cooperation with China's Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
According to official news from Monaco Telecom and media reports such as AFP, Monaco Telecom President France said at the opening ceremony that day that Monaco has become the first country to achieve full 5G coverage, and the relevant technology will help the country achieve digitalization.
Monaco Telecom General Manager Perronnet said that people's relationship with the Internet has changed, and mobile technology has replaced computers. We need higher performance and more bandwidth. He said that 5G will soon be put into more practical applications, such as the Formula One Grand Prix to be held next year.
Genta, Monaco's cross-departmental representative in charge of digital transformation, said that achieving full 5G coverage is a "paradigm shift" that will enable Monaco to integrate life with digital. 5G will provide a better quality of life for everyone.
Monaco Telecom's official website has begun to promote 5G technology in a prominent position, stating that private and business customers in Monaco will be able to use this new technology on 5G-compatible smartphones. The mobile phone recommended by the official website is the Huawei Mate20 X model that supports 5G technology.
Among the examples of the use of 5G signals demonstrated in Monaco, experts showed off their bus shelters equipped with wireless networks; Monaco's firefighters will also have drones capable of broadcasting 4K quality images in real time.
Monaco Telecom and Huawei officially signed a 5G cooperation agreement in early September 2018, committed to achieving full 5G coverage in Monaco. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on 5G cooperation in Barcelona, Spain in February 2019.
Monaco is located on the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The entire country is surrounded on three sides by the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France. It has a land area of 2.02 square kilometers and is one of the richest countries in the world.
