French company Dicom, a leading provider of fixed and mobile digital TV chips, recently released its latest tuning-demodulation system-on-chip (SoC) solution, DIB8096P, at the International Integrated Circuit Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China). This chip supports the ISDB-T full-seg standard, provides a high-performance digital TV solution for fixed receiving devices, and can be integrated into set-top boxes, TVs and PCTVs at a very low cost. With the development of digital TV in South America, ISDB-T is being adopted by more and more South American countries such as Brazil and Argentina. The trend of large-scale demand will continue in the next few years.
With the DIB8096GP being widely used in the past two years, with shipments exceeding one million, the new DIB8096P SoC provides the market with a lower cost, more cost-effective product in a 64-pin, 9x9mm QFN package designed for the rapidly growing global market.
In the past four years, Dicom has deployed tens of millions of TV reception chips around the world and accumulated a lot of technical experience. The newly released DIB8096P fully utilizes these existing experience and technologies and integrates them to ensure high-performance reception quality. At the same time, with the help of SoC technology, the cost is significantly reduced.
The DIB8096P supporting ISDB-T full-seg (and one-seg) meets ARIB and SBTVD specifications and provides excellent performance.
The new Soc chip integrates the latest generation of low-power wireless and wired frequency band tuners. The extremely high linearity ensures the best adjacent frequency performance, and the zero-IF architecture achieves the lowest noise level.
The patented algorithm in COFDM demodulation has established a high reputation for Decon over the years. Digital processing suppresses peak noise, multipath, adjacent channel interference and co-channel interference, allowing the chip to recover all useful signals and provide unparalleled reception quality.
DIB8090P can work in parallel mode, two ISDB-T chips can form a daisy chain, providing diversity or dual signal reception:
▪ If MRC classification is enabled, data is provided to a single output stream through dual antennas, significantly improving sensitivity.
▪ If dual signal reception is enabled, data is received through two chips, providing a high-end solution for PVR (Personal Video Recorder) or PiP (Picture in Picture).
The chip's supporting software is easy to use, already includes all fine-tuning configurations, and can be flexibly ported to any back-end processor.
"Having developed innovative applications for receiving TV signals in a mobile environment, we are now pleased to offer low-cost, high-performance STB and digital TV consumer electronics solutions," said Yannick Levy, CEO of Decam. "With digital TV services now available in many countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, this is a great opportunity to tap into the market. Likewise, we are very optimistic about the combined tuning-demodulation capabilities of the latest STB architectures for hybrid IPTV/broadcast, PVR and all forms of digital video including SD, HD and, in the future, 3D."
