Currently, the production of small and medium-sized AMOLED panels is still dominated by Samsung Display, a Korean company. They have self-luminous properties and do not require a backlight module, so they are suitable for use in mobile devices that emphasize thinness and power saving. However, Samsung's main OLED panel manufacturing process is the evaporation process, which has the disadvantage that the resolution is not easy to improve. At the same time, the life of the blue organic material is insufficient, which is also a challenge that the technology has yet to overcome. In terms of panel pixel density, the original resolution of the RGB OLED panel produced using the evaporation process is about 250ppi, which is also lower than that of the LCD panel.
To improve the resolution of OLED panels, Samsung uses a virtual method of sharing sub-pixels, such as the Pentile arrangement method, which allows the resolution to be raised to more than 300ppi, and has been applied to mobile phone products such as S III. However, high-end smartphones are in the trend of high resolution, and Full HD phones with more than 400ppi have become the focus of high-end products. The high-end TFT LCD camp using the LTPS process still has an advantage. In addition to changing the virtual method of pixel arrangement, the OLED camp has two other feasible methods to improve the resolution. One is to introduce the laser transfer process (LITI), which is currently held by Samsung alone. The second method is to use white light OLED with color filters to improve the resolution.
