Octopus 2: The first device capable of demodulating terrestrial and mobile digital TV and broadcast signals from all over the world, including China's CMMB and CTTB standards
Dicon, a market-leading provider of DTT receiving components, recently announced that it will attend the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 9 to 13, 2011. At that time, Dicon will exhibit its latest version of digital TV universal device - Octopus 2.
Octopus 2 is the first chip that can simultaneously receive two Chinese digital TV standards - CMMB (China Mobile TV standard) and CTTB (or DTMB, digital terrestrial TV standard). China's automotive market is growing rapidly (annual average growth rate of 20%), which has brought strong demand for embedded multimedia, such as broadcast TV. The launch of Dikang's new solution will provide effective support for these needs.
Octopus 2 receives the specified standard by calling the corresponding microcode when starting the device. Thus, by using two microcodes, the same device can receive CMMB or CTTB digital TV signals anywhere in China, as is now possible in 300 towns in China.
Additionally, depending on the microcode, the device can receive digital TV and radio signals from Europe (DVB-T, DAB, T-DMB), Japan, Latin America (ISDB-T) and the United States (ATSC, ATSC-M/H).
Like its predecessors, the new Octopus chip contains a multi-frequency tuner, a patented programmable demodulator, a descrambler for pay TV, and intelligent power management features.
Yannick Lévy, CEO of Dicom, said, “Octopus 2’s low cost, flexibility and high-performance mobility due to its sophisticated algorithms make this chip an ideal solution for automotive equipment manufacturers.”
