According to data from Gaogong Industry Research Institute (GGII), the sales volume of arc welding robots in the Chinese market will be 28,600 units in 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 7.14%. As the demand certainty of the downstream core industries gradually increases, GGII optimistically estimates that the sales volume of arc welding robots in the Chinese market will be 31,500 units in 2024, with a year-on-year growth rate of about 10%.

From the perspective of competition, arc welding robots used in the Chinese market can be divided into three categories: Japanese, European, and domestic. Japanese brands include Yaskawa, Fanuc, OTC, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries; European brands include KUKA, CLOOS, and ABB; domestic brands include Canopy, Estun, KOKA Robotics, Efort, STEP, Chaifu Robotics, Erbit Robotics, Qianjiang Robotics, and Turing Robotics. GGII data shows that in 2023, the market share of domestic arc welding robots will increase by about 2 percentage points year-on-year, approaching 50%, and domestic brands will accelerate their penetration in general fields such as engineering, steel structures, ships, and hardware and metals.

From the perspective of downstream application areas, affected by the sluggish global macroeconomic situation, investment in most industries has slowed down, which has had a certain impact on the volume of welding robots to some extent. In addition, in 2023, core industries represented by steel structure and shipbuilding began to release orders for batch welding robot demand, which had a significant stimulating effect on the industry. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2023, China's automobile production will be 30.113 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%, and a slight increase for the whole year; in 2023, the national shipbuilding completion volume will be 42.32 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%; the new order volume will be 71.20 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 56.4%; in 2023, China's steel structure production will reach 44.88 million tons, an increase of 28.4% over the same period last year.
Due to the fact that some technologies have not yet matured, the robotization and ease of use of welding still fail to meet users' expectations. GGII believes that in the next few years, the intelligence and digitization of welding robots will be the key breakthrough direction, which involves welding power supplies, welding robots, visual tracking systems, teaching-free software, intelligent control systems and other aspects. As the first major scenario for strong process applications, with the increase of various players, the welding robot industry and ecology may undergo tremendous changes, especially with the general handling robot ecology in the past. At the same time, the leading and guiding role of large terminal customers has become increasingly prominent, which is particularly evident in the steel structure and shipbuilding industries.
At the same time, during the GGII survey, it was found that the awareness and recognition of collaborative robot welding is gaining significant momentum. Based on its flexibility and ease of use, coupled with the expansion of its cost-effectiveness, many major industry customers are seeking to introduce collaborative welding robots in batches, with the steel structure and shipbuilding industries being the most prominent representatives.
GGII conducted research on various arc welding robot brands and combined it with data verification of surrounding supporting equipment and upstream and downstream supply chains to release the "TOP 10 Arc Welding Robot Brand Shipment Rankings in the Chinese Market in 2023".

The arc welding robot consists of the robot and robot-specific welding equipment, among which the robot-specific welding equipment mainly includes welding power source and its, wire feeding device, welding gun, etc. The welding power source is one of the most important components of robot-specific welding equipment.
From the perspective of competition, foreign brands of arc welding robot power supplies in the Chinese market mainly include Japan's Panasonic, Japan's OTC, Yaskawa, Austria's Fronius, Denmark's Migatron, the United States' Lincoln, Finland's Kemp, Germany's EWM, Cloos, etc. Domestic brands mainly include Megmeet, Shandong Aotai, Kelda, BINGO, etc. In comparison, domestic welding power supply manufacturers still have a certain gap with foreign manufacturers in terms of mastery of key technologies of automation and robot welding equipment, production applications, and research and accumulation of welding processes, and most of the high-end market share is still occupied by imported welding machine brands.
From the perspective of the matching of arc welding robots and welding power supply manufacturers, foreign manufacturers such as Fronius, Kemppi, Miganik, Lincoln, and EWM mainly sell their robot-specific welding power supplies by matching other welding robot body manufacturers. Most of the welding power supply products of Japan's OTC and Japan's Panasonic are mainly matched with their welding robots for sale as a whole. They are one of the few companies that master both the whole machine and welding equipment technology.
Domestic brands are mainly represented by Megmeet, Aotai Electric, and Kelda, among which Megmeet ranks first; followed by Aotai Electric, which ranks second; Kelda is mainly sold through many robot manufacturers including Yaskawa. In 2023, the production and sales volume of its own brand robots grew rapidly, which to some extent also had a certain pulling effect on the sales of its welding power supplies.
GGII conducted a survey on the shipment volume of various welding power supply brands and combined it with data verification from supporting manufacturers to release the "TOP 10 Shipment Rankings of Arc Welding Robot Welding Power Supply Brands in the Chinese Market in 2023" list.
