Due to strong demand for automation, Japan's robot orders this year (2023) are expected to hit a record high for three consecutive years, and production will break the 1 trillion yen mark for the first time.

According to reports, Kenji Yamaguchi (President of FANUC), Chairman of the Japan Robot Association (JARA), said that supported by strong demand for automation, Japan's robot orders (including non-JARA member companies) are expected to increase by 3.6% year-on-year to about 1.15 trillion yen this year (2023), and production is expected to increase by 6.0% year-on-year to 1.5 trillion yen. Japan's robot orders this year are expected to set a record high for the third consecutive year, and production will exceed the 1 trillion yen mark for the first time in history.

Regarding the market situation in 2023, Kenji Yamaguchi said, "Global inflation and the Chinese epidemic have added to concerns about a global economic slowdown. Although economic fluctuations will have more or less impact, investments in automation and carbon neutrality will continue."

The manufacturing and logistics industries continue to introduce robots due to labor shortages, driving Japan's robot orders to increase by 2.9% year-on-year to approximately 1.11 trillion yen in 2022, setting a new high for two consecutive years, far higher than the 811.6 billion yen in 2019 before the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic.

JARA released statistics on October 28 last year (statistics include JARA member companies such as Fanuc, KUKA, ABB, Yaskawa Electric, etc., excluding service robots ) and pointed out that although demand from China has shrunk, due to strong demand in Europe and the United States, Japan's industrial robot orders in Q3 2022 (July-September 2022) increased by 10.7% year-on-year to 236.1 billion yen, marking the eighth increase in nine quarters.

In the third quarter of 2022, Japan's robot output increased by 9.2% year-on-year to 223.1 billion yen, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of growth. The quarterly output exceeded the 221.7 billion yen in April-June 2022, setting a new record high.

Japanese robot giant Fanuc released financial report data on October 27 last year, pointing out that the order amount of the robot department in Q3 2022 (July-September 2022) increased by 38% year-on-year to 107.2 billion yen. The quarterly order amount exceeded the 100 billion yen mark for the second consecutive quarter, setting a record high.

Yaskawa Electric released financial report data on October 7 last year, pointing out that the order amount of the "Robot Department" in the June-August 2022 quarter increased by 34% to 62.4 billion yen compared with the same period last year, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of growth.
