Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time, and we are running out of time. The Paris Agreement commits us to limit global warming to 1.5°C. To achieve this goal, we must reduce emissions 45% by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050. But we are still far from that goal. In the meantime, the Inflation Reduction Act provides momentum to scale up existing climate solutions to meet carbon reduction goals.

Roboticists, now is the time to work on climate robots! Together, let’s use our skills to accelerate climate solutions and reach net zero in time!

Sherry Chen is the founder of Nirva Labs, an organization that raises awareness of climate robotics solutions and encourages more to join the field. She was also an early employee at Chef Robotics, building robots for repetitive tasks in commercial kitchens. Previously, she built an award-winning autonomous boat for water quality monitoring, taught Nuro, a delivery robot that solves the last mile problem, to interact safely with pedestrians, and published a paper on ML-based interaction planning for autonomous vehicles while conducting research at the University of Pennsylvania.
