Affordable new version brings the power of Raspberry Pi 5 to everyone
Shanghai, China, September 2, 2024 - element14, a global electronic components products and solutions distributor under Avnet, recently launched the new and cost-effective Raspberry Pi 5 2GB.
For about $50, developers can adopt the Raspberry Pi 5 2GB, a product that combines affordability and innovation for hobbyists and RPi enthusiasts around the world.
Simon Wade, Senior Global Product Manager for Single Board Computing at element14 , said: “This is a significant development for the Raspberry Pi 5 space. The promise of an affordable Raspberry Pi 5 product has now been fulfilled and we are delighted to offer this impressive SBC.”
“We announced the release of the Raspberry Pi 5 in September 2023 and since then it has been widely expected that a more affordable version of the Raspberry Pi would be available, depending on whether we could achieve an attractive price point. Now, the Raspberry Pi 5 2GB has achieved that goal.”
The entry-level Raspberry Pi 2GB features a 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 CPU with cryptographic extensions, 512KB L2 cache per core, and 2MB shared L3 cache 50MHz system clock.
Its VideoCore VII GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.1, Vulkan 1.2, and includes support for HDR via dual 4Kp60 HEVC decoders and HDMI® display output.
Improve power efficiency with well-managed 2GB LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi®, and Bluetooth 5.0/Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, said: “We are delighted to be working with element14 to bring the full power of the Raspberry Pi 5 platform to users at a lower price. Our continued investment in optimising the resource footprint of Raspberry Pi OS has enabled more use cases to run on the new 2GB RAM version, while the 4GB and 8GB versions remain available for those more demanding users.”
Wade added : "Raspberry Pi 5 has proven to be a versatile, powerful and popular SBC for nearly every DIY, education, media, server, desktop and other IoT applications. This new version further expands the range of applications by making the power of RPi 5 more accessible."
The Raspberry Pi 5 2GB is available to order now from element14.
