Fujitsu's A64FX processor once helped "Fugaku" become the world's number one supercomputer. Now they have begun to develop the next generation processor, codenamed "Monaka".

The Monaka processor, like the A64FX, is still based on the Arm architecture, based on the latest Armv9-A instruction set, with up to about 150 cores, divided into two Dies through 3D Chiplet design, and packaged with SRAM, IO controller and other units.

Each core has an SVE2 vector unit, so it can process large-scale vector data in parallel, which is very suitable for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, but the specific width is temporarily unknown.

The Monaka processor supports DDR5 memory and the next-generation PCIe 6.0 bus, and also supports CXL 3.0.

The power consumption is unknown, but it is said that air cooling can handle it and the energy efficiency is very high.

It will be manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process, which has not yet entered production, and is expected to be launched in 2026 (Fujitsu's fiscal year 2027).

It is worth mentioning that Monaka will not be used in Japan’s next-generation top supercomputer, but will be used as a transition. It will depend on the next generation of Monaka, which is not expected to be online until 2030.
