The RISC-V architecture is regarded as the third path for China's chip industry after the x86 and ARM architectures. Many people believe that the RISC-V architecture may be the key to the rise of China's chips.
Recently, the 10th Annual Technical Conference on Open Source Operating Systems was held in Beijing. At the meeting, ROMA, the world's first RISC-V development laptop, was officially released and equipped with the openKylin (open Kylin) domestic operating system by default.
It is understood that ROMA is the world's first native RISC-V development laptop led by the RISC-V Foundation, developed by Deep Digital Intelligence and debugged by Jianshi Technology. It allows you to experience native RISC-V development and the RISC-V software ecosystem.
However, the official did not announce the specific parameters of ROMA at this meeting. The PPT only disclosed information such as using a 4-core 12/22nm processor, 4/8/16GB memory, and will support ChromeOS in the future.
Different from Win system computers, ROMA has its own exclusive shortcut key, located to the left of the "Alt" key, using the RISC-V logo. It can currently be used to open the RISC-V official website, etc., and there should be more shortcut functions in the future.
According to openKylin, openKylin has optimized RISC-V technology for ROMA, including the kernel & support layer, scalable operating system architecture, hardware device drivers, etc., and provides 10,000+ full software packages for the developer support environment. The software ecosystem includes openKylin self-developed, FireFox, DingTalk, etc.
For consumers, it will take a few more years to use affordable RISC-V laptops, but the greater significance of ROMA is to help the development of RISC-V chips and the development of Chinese chips.
