As the company with the most 5G core patents in the world, Huawei's strength in the 5G field is obvious to all, and it is also at the forefront in 5G applications. At present, Huawei's 5G not only meets the needs of mobile terminals, but also has a lot of practice in industrial interconnection and digitalization, and has achieved fruitful results. It has successfully promoted 5G into coal mines, oil fields, steel, ports, transportation, intelligent manufacturing and other fields, empowering thousands of industries.
After Huawei's 5G was rejected by European countries, Nokia and Ericsson benefited greatly from it and occupied enough market share to become qualified competitors of Huawei. The difference in technology also doomed them to be unable to go further. Except for those countries that gave up cooperation under pressure, the rest chose Huawei without hesitation, which further enhanced Huawei's competitive advantage.
Huawei has the most 5G patents in the world. Any country that wants to achieve a complete and easy-to-use 5G network cannot bypass its technical patents. Even countries that have refused to cooperate cannot avoid paying large patent fees. Even in the face of relevant restrictions, after the release of key data, Huawei still ranked first in the world in market share in 2021. The relevant restrictions on Huawei have been implemented for more than three years. From the initial 5G field to the later chip field, Huawei has not been defeated by the current difficulties, but has achieved better growth. Now Huawei has achieved very good results in operating systems, cloud services, smart cars and other fields. Obviously, Huawei has turned from passive to active and launched a comprehensive layout for monopolized technologies.
The communications field is Huawei's most important layout. More than 20 years of layout has brought Huawei to the top of this field and made outstanding contributions to world science and technology. Unlike the decline in sales due to the shortage of mobile phone chips, the 5G layout under restrictions has a clearer direction. The release of key data has also confirmed the strength of Huawei and further proved the importance of mastering core technologies.
According to data from professional organizations, Huawei's market share in the global communications equipment market in 2021 reached 28.7%, firmly ranking first in the world, followed by Ericsson and Nokia, with market shares of 15% and 14.9% respectively. This gap also allows the world to see the "lie" and there is no problem with Huawei's 5G. In contrast, the shares of Nokia and Ericsson are almost the same, which shows that their customer sources are almost the same. Many of them are not active sources, but they made the choice out of helplessness. However, even so, the market share of the two companies combined can reach the level of Huawei. This is the supreme honor of Chinese companies. After decades of monopoly in the communications field, China has finally achieved overtaking.
In overseas markets, despite considerable resistance, Huawei continues to overcome difficulties and achieve success. Recently, it was reported that Huawei and Turk Telekom signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in 5G. Turk Telekom is the largest telecommunications company in Turkey. In addition to 23.9 million mobile customers, it also has 14.1 million broadband users (note: data as of September last year). Huawei is a strategic partner of Turk Telekom. Turk Telekom CEO Umit Onar admitted that 5G solutions play a vital role in transportation, health, education, agriculture, urbanization and other fields.
Turkey has given a very high evaluation to Huawei, believing that it has made important contributions to Turkey's infrastructure construction in the past. It is revealed that Huawei has set up a research and development center in Turkey, which has more than 750 engineers, most of whom are Turkish.
In addition, during the Barcelona exhibition, Brazilian telecom operator TIM and Huawei signed a memorandum of cooperation on 5G city joint innovation. The two sides will jointly promote the construction of smart cities in Brazil. Huawei has a good cooperation with Brazilian operators. This cooperation has formed a foundation of mutual trust since the 2G era. Entering the 5G era, although Brazil has also suffered resistance from all sides, Brazil has withstood the pressure and announced that it will not restrict the development of Huawei's 5G in Brazil. Brazil has a population of 210 million and is the fifth most populous country in the world. At the same time, Brazil has an area of 851 square kilometers and is also the fifth largest country in the world. Huawei's winning of Brazil's 5G order is of great significance.
Recently, at the Mobile World Congress, Ding Yun, Executive Director and President of Huawei's Carrier Business, delivered a keynote speech titled "Lighting up the Future", envisioning the bright future of the digital economy and how it will be realized. He revealed that to date, Huawei, together with operators and partners, has signed more than 3,000 5G industry application contracts and has accumulated rich experience. It can be said that Huawei is at the forefront of the industry in terms of 5G commercial applications.
5G chips are high-end technology that is difficult to break through and insurmountable. Huawei, a Chinese brand, is not afraid of difficulties and has worked hard for several years to conquer 5G. The king has returned. Recently, 5G chips have won many patents, brilliant achievements, and outstanding results. 5G SMIC has hope, and Huawei must be the hero, with great hard work and great contributions.
So, how can Huawei's 5G chips break through the US's siege? Now, the US has undoubtedly miscalculated. So, after the miscalculation, will the US give up?
On March 2, Huawei announced a patent for 5G chips. The name of this patent is called RF chip, baseband chip and WLAL device. Of course, Huawei's patent is too professional. If it is explained in detail, it will not only be unclear, but also not many people will be able to understand it.
Therefore, we only need to know that the patent announced by Huawei is mainly about 5G chips, and the scope of the patent is relatively comprehensive, covering the RF chip that receives 5G signals, the baseband chip that processes 5G signals, and the carrier WLAL device of the 5G chip.
To be specific, Huawei's chip patent includes at least two signal generators, at least three RF transceiver circuits and at least three IF transceiver circuits. The more important ones are the first signal generation circuit and the second signal generation circuit. Why are these two the most important? Because these two generation circuits are the basis of 5G base station chips. From this we can see that in order to achieve a breakthrough in 5G chips, Huawei strives to develop comprehensively.
Today, the release of Huawei's 5G patents also proves that the United States has failed in its attempt to contain Huawei. I believe everyone still remembers it, especially Japan, which should be deeply impressed. The US actions against Huawei are almost the same as the methods it used to crack down on Japanese technology in the last century.
Just in February 2021, IPLytics, an internationally renowned patent data company, released the latest 5G patent rankings. Judging from the proportion of 5G patents held by major technology giants, Huawei ranks first in the world with 15.39% of the patents, while Qualcomm ranks second in the world with 11.24%, followed by ZTE, Samsung, and Nokia, with 5G patents accounting for 9.81%, 9.67%, and 9.01% respectively; ranking third, fourth, and fifth in the world; it has to be said that Huawei had 4,024 5G patents in 2017, 5,405 5G patents in 2018, 5,411 5G patents in 2019, and 5,464 5G patents in 2021. It has to be said that even after Huawei suffered a series of "suppression", it was still able to maintain its global 5G technology leadership, and also created 20 5G ToB For scenario demonstration applications, we have signed more than 1,000 industry application contracts, accounting for more than 50% of the global market share.
But just as Huawei's 5G technology continued to gain a global leading edge, Huawei's mobile phones fell into a "life and death" stage due to the "chip ban". After a series of adjustments to Huawei's mobile phone business, Huawei recently launched another big move, officially announcing that it will charge 5G patent fees to global manufacturers.
According to Huawei's chief legal officer Song Liuping, Huawei will negotiate 5G patent fees with Apple and Samsung. Huawei plans to charge a maximum of US$2.5 in patent fees for each mobile phone. It has to be said that patents are indeed a core technology that can make money without doing anything. For a long time in the past, Qualcomm has relied on its larger share of 2G, 3G, and 4G network patent technologies to charge patent fees to global mobile phone manufacturers. However, it was not until the 5G network era that Qualcomm's "monopoly" in charging patent fees was officially broken. Because the 5G mobile phones currently released on the market basically use Huawei's 5G patents, this time Huawei chose to charge patent fees to global mobile phone manufacturers.
