Founded by Mr Zamberlan, Utilità is a family business located in Costabissara, not far from Vicenza, Italy, and has been producing a range of products as a subcontract processor since 1992; initially targeting the jewellery and watchmaking industries, it expanded into the aerospace sector in 2004 and has gradually expanded its activities to include dental, orthopaedic, spinal and maxillofacial implants and precision micro-component machining.
Andrea Zamberlan, CTO and founder of Utilità, said:
"We started out as jewelry processors, turning the dazzling beauty of jewelry from design into reality through processing." Precision component processing.
Vicenza is the capital of gold. My father's company was involved in the field of goldsmithing and jewellery, and after several considerations of combining this craft with modern technologies, we decided to found Utilità.
[…]
We started producing the first parts and soon found that there was a great demand in the market. The next step was to switch to titanium, and here we began a fascinating journey in the production of medical implants and medical components.
In order to further consolidate the current business, we must not only ensure production efficiency, but also bear the brunt of bringing customers high-quality products.
It is important to have a team that knows exactly what quality is and how to ensure it.
Stefano Castegnaro, Operations Manager at Utilità, said: “Utilità is always about the most important thing in the world: people. We work with the aerospace industry and provide dental, orthopaedic and maxillofacial implants to our customers. Technology is definitely one of our key elements and it is an essential support system for our daily work.”
The importance of detecting tool wear with optical measuring machines.
“We produce around 1.5 million components per year for 2,500 orders, and we are able to produce extremely complex parts,” said Nicola Zamberlan, CTO and founder of Utilità. “Optical measuring machines are very important in helping us understand the tool wear that may occur during machining.”
“We put the product in the right place, press start, and VICI does the rest.”
“In 2004, we bought our first Vicivision machine,” said Andrea Zamberlan, CTO and founder of Utilità. “Once we had created the program, all we had to do was place the product in the right position, press start, and the Vici would do the rest. We can do all the measurements, both form and positioning, because the Vici enables us to detect where on the part certain machining operations are performed.”
Easy-to-use measuring machine
“The Vici machine enables me to measure the diameter as well as all the cuts along the length of the part, so when we have the right program set up, all the external dimensions can be checked in one go with a single scan. This is where a great machine like the Vici comes into play, helping us speed up the process but most importantly, it optimises the operator’s job.
"When we carried out our first measurements with Vici, we were pleasantly surprised by the results."
