In Ni Guangnan's opinion, the situation of industrial software in the construction industry is relatively good, because China's construction industry is very active in the world. Whether in terms of the scale of the construction industry or the number of practitioners, it should be the world's leading.

On August 14, at the 2019 China Industrial Internet Conference held in Hangzhou, Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that as an important supporting technology for the industrial Internet, industrial software is still a shortcoming of China's Internet security.

"We have done some research. From the perspective of various technologies, our overall level, overall technology and industrial level are slightly lower than that of the United States. We have two major shortcomings. One is hardware (chips), which is the bottleneck of others. The chip design is okay, but some are very short, among which EDA, electronic engineering design, and electronic design automation technology are the shortest, the shortest of the short boards. In addition, there are industrial software and basic software, such as operating systems and industrial software shortcomings. EDA software is the short board of chips, and it is also a short board of industrial software." Ni Guangnan said that there is only one company in China that has been doing EDA for a long time (HuaDa JiuTian), and recently some new ones have emerged.

According to Ni Guangnan, in 1988, the country launched the "Panda System". At that time, there was a certain amount of investment and certain results, but since then, the investment has declined for various reasons. Later, when HuaDa JiuTian was re-established in 2009, there was a certain amount of investment in the national plan. It is not that there is no market, no people, and no technology, but mainly because of the lack of thinking and awareness. Now we need to study how to catch up as soon as possible. As a shortcoming, it will take 10 to 20 years to really catch up.

Ni Guangnan also said that there are many industrial software, and discrete manufacturing is also very important. "At present, some domestic companies can already make CAD software for our industrial software, but CAD and CAE (computer-aided engineering) are not enough. These industrial software restrict some of our high-end manufacturing, including the development of industrial Internet. For example, for discrete manufacturing software, we hope to support our own CAD, CAE, and overall solutions. Here is a concept, hoping to support the development of various application fields around a core industrial software. There are many application fields, and I think they can continue to increase. I hope to catch up in this regard as soon as possible."

In Ni Guangnan's opinion, the situation of industrial software in the construction industry is relatively good, because China's construction industry is very active in the world. Whether in terms of the scale of the construction industry or the number of practitioners, it should be the world's leading.

"In the current development of the new generation of information technology, I think software is very important. In the past, we emphasized the basic and strategic nature of information technology, but now it should be said that the new generation of information technology is often closely related to software. We know that the so-called software defines the world and software defines everything. This slogan is exaggerated now, but it shows that software is equivalent to basic and universal. Therefore, many traditional enterprises say that they are now software enterprises. They think this is very glorious and shows that the enterprises have kept up with the pace of development."

In his speech that day, Ni Guangnan also mentioned that China needs to increase research on the open source software model. "In order to avoid the current problems, we need to study the countermeasures of relevant open source software. For example, we need to increase investment in open source foundations based on later investment research. Now many open source communities have set up code hosting platforms in the United States, which will be subject to the control of US export laws. If there is also a code hosting platform in China, and multiple platforms are synchronized, we will not be subject to control when uploading and downloading open source software in China. This is what we need to study recently."
