Why is the impact of technology so huge?
Technology is one of the various factors of human civilization.
The only way to achieve incremental progress.
Behind these creations and achievements are the developers.
Holding the key to technological change, you have the power to change the world.
On June 19, the annual Synopsys Developer Conference kicked off in Shanghai, the Internet treasure land. This year's developer conference is more significant for Synopsys - the 29-year-old SNUG (Synopsys User Conference) has been completely upgraded and reborn. With the strong support of the Yangpu District People's Government, the conference attracted more than 1,400 developers from all over the world to share the innovative achievements of cutting-edge technology. The conference also held the launch ceremony of the Synopsys Tsinghua University artificial intelligence cooperation project.
Together, we change the world
Synopsys China Chairman and Global Vice President Ge Qun
"Developers are the force that makes the world a better place." Synopsys China Chairman and Global Vice President Ge Qun shared several exciting cases in his opening speech: developers have made chips support AI technology so precise that it can be applied to medical diagnosis, allowing more patients in remote areas to enjoy first-class medical diagnosis and treatment; developers have made chips fast enough, so that AI facial recognition technology can lock suspects and accomplices within 5 seconds; leading chip technology can enable sign language translators to help signers communicate with the world without barriers. Developers hold the key to technological change and have the power to change the world. To innovate and go far, think together, Synopsys and developers will work together to give full play to the value of technology, open up cooperation and integration from applications to software to chips, help China's industry take off, and use technology to show the kindness of mankind to the world.
The truth is simple, mutual trust is unity
Synopsys President and Co-CEO Dr. Chih-Kuan Chen
"In the more than 30 years since Synopsys was founded, the semiconductor industry has undergone tremendous changes and has been in a state of continuous rapid change," said Dr. Chih-Kuan Chen, president and co-CEO of Synopsys, in his keynote speech. He summarized the three major changes in today's semiconductor industry: the evolution of the market structure and the rise of China's semiconductor industry, the continued mergers and acquisitions in the industry, and the coexistence of multiple semiconductor processes. He also emphasized that the driving force behind the development of semiconductors is also constantly changing, and artificial intelligence, automotive electronics and 5G have become the three major driving forces. Although the pace of technological development is getting faster and faster, the road is simple. Synopsys always looks to the future, maintains technological leadership, and continues to bring advanced methodologies required for innovation to global partners; mutual trust is unified. In an increasingly complex world, Synopsys sticks to its original intention and is proud to achieve the development of global technology. "We are very fortunate to have been deeply involved in the development of China's semiconductor industry over the past 25 years, and will continue to make firm contributions to the future."
See the frontier, see the future
When talking about the hot topic of artificial intelligence, the special guest, Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, Chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures, imagined the significance of artificial intelligence technology for the transformation of future business models through a video, and painted a business picture of the artificial intelligence era for developers. He believes that artificial intelligence technology is an upgraded statistical system that helps humans classify, make decisions, and even predict. Its core value lies in maximizing the use of massive data resources to drive new business models and bring a better life. At the same time, he also envisioned a new form of social division of labor after the popularization of artificial intelligence technology, and sent a message to great developers to see the forefront and the future.
Where to go after 2nm?
The developer conference was extremely popular
Another special guest was Dr. Hu Zhengming, known as the father of FinFET, who shared his unique insights on the development of the semiconductor industry through a video. He believes that "as the most advanced processes continue to move towards 7nm, 5nm, and 2nm, the biggest challenge facing the semiconductor industry is to find a long-term development path." Just as the FinFET technology he developed has enabled chips to leap from planar technology to 3D technology, he is participating in the research of negative capacitance transistors in order to reduce power consumption by 10 times. He hopes that developers will take one step at a time to innovate the industry to solve the various challenges currently faced and achieve sustainable development of technology.
Artificial Intelligence Industry Trends
Professor Wang Yu from Tsinghua University
Professor Wang Yu from Tsinghua University introduced the status quo and trends of AI chips from the hardware level. He said, "The AI chip industry is currently in a stage of flourishing, and it is expected that the next 5 to 10 years will be an era of application-driven system-on-chip. Many large companies will choose to buy general-purpose chips, but at the same time they will not give up the right to make their own chips. This is a very clear trend, and under such a trend, the construction of an ecosystem is extremely critical to the AI industry. At the same time, the definition of edge computing chips (such as cars, base stations, etc.) is not clear, and there is still a lot of room for development. Artificial intelligence is a research project that requires long-term investment. We should lay a solid foundation, conduct in-depth integration of industry, academia and research, and build an ecosystem suitable for the development of AI."
5G is in the ascendant, and 6G is on the agenda
Dr. Shanzhi Chen, Vice President of China Information and Communications Technology Group Corporation and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Wireless Mobile Communications
When talking about 5G communication technology, Dr. Chen Shanzhi, Deputy General Manager of China Information and Communications Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Wireless Mobile Communications, shared his in-depth thoughts on 5G commercial applications and industrial development. He pointed out: "Thanks to the efforts of a large number of technical R&D engineers, China's 5G market development has achieved a series of phased results and will enter large-scale commercial use in 2020. The key factors for the future development of the 5G market are mainly to develop potential industry applications, strengthen the design and manufacturing capabilities of related chips, and enhance international market influence." In addition, he also said that although 5G is in its infancy, the research and development of 6G cutting-edge communication technology has also started, and the Chinese communication market is "running fast".
Deep insights, hard-core technology, you sing and I come on stage
If the main forum speeches shared the depth of ideas of the developer conference, then the subsequent hardcore technology sub-forums showed the breadth of technology at the developer conference. This conference set up five sub-forums, focusing on hot applications such as 5G communications and data centers, machine learning, Internet of Things + Artificial Intelligence (AIoT), and automotive electronics, attracting many developers from various fields to show how their innovative achievements can truly change the world.
"Mobile 5G computing and big data computing" is one of the most popular topics of discussion this year. The chip design field of the semiconductor industry is experiencing a new wave. The collection, learning, real-time processing and transmission of massive data are driving the innovation of chips and their design processes. At the same time, the constantly updated advanced process nodes also put forward higher requirements for the efficiency and convergence of the chip design process. Synopsys' revolutionary Fusion technology integrates the market-leading best logic synthesis, layout and routing, industry gold medal signoff analysis tools, and a new generation of testability design technology, redefining the boundaries of traditional tools and minimizing the number of iterations. In addition, in order to cope with the increasing complexity of chip design, Synopsys has responded to user needs and launched the industry's fastest simulation hardware accelerator ZeBu, prototype verification acceleration platform HAPS, etc., making ultra-large-scale system-level hardware and software collaborative verification no longer just a dream, allowing users to bring chips to market faster.
As more and more developers begin to explore how to apply artificial intelligence technology in various fields, the "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning" sub-forum has also attracted the participation of many developers. In this sub-forum, developers from international chip giants and domestic start-ups gathered together to study the challenges and solutions of artificial intelligence chip development and think about the future development direction of artificial intelligence, a technology that can revolutionize the basic model of human society. Synopsys is working with many leading artificial intelligence chip suppliers in various market segments around the world to provide memory interface IP, on-chip SRAM compilers including TCAM and multi-port memory, 400G hyperscale data center 56G PHY IP, and ASIP, a development tool that helps users quickly design their own dedicated processors and a full set of tool chains.
