According to foreign media reports, Walmart announced on Tuesday that it has hired former Amazon and Google executive Suresh Kumar as chief technology officer and chief development officer, with the goal of competing fiercely with Amazon, Google and other technology giants.
Walmart announced that Kumar will join the company on July 8 and will report directly to the CEO.
Prior to joining Walmart, Kumar served as Google's vice president and general manager of display, video, app advertising and analytics. Previously, he was vice president of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure and operations. Before joining Microsoft, Kumar worked at Amazon for 15 years, holding several important positions including vice president of retail systems and operational technology, and director of Amazon's retail supply chain and inventory management system.
“Walmart is a great success story of how a company can evolve over time to meet the changing needs of its customers, and today it is in the midst of a very exciting digital transformation,” Kumar said in a statement. “With more than 11,000 stores, the potential to leverage technology for growth is unparalleled, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
It is reported that Walmart's former technology officer Jeremy King has jumped to Pinterest.
