If we only look at the installed capacity of batteries for individual vehicles, the gap between BYD and CATL is only 0.6GWh. However, CATL has also achieved a large number of supporting batteries through joint ventures with Geely, SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan and other automakers, and its overall battery installed capacity is still in an absolute leading position. Other companies with independent supporting installed capacity exceeding 1GWh include Guoxuan High-tech, Zhongxinhang, and the joint venture battery factory of CATL and Geely.

CATL has supplied power batteries to 61 brands including Tesla, Xiaomi, Volkswagen, Arcfox, Changan, Aion, iCAR, BMW, and Avita, with a total installed capacity of 8,924MWh (8.9GWh), of which Tesla alone accounts for 35%. In addition, CATL has also supplied 2,717.5MWh (2.7GWh) through joint venture battery companies with some automakers.
BYD BEV passenger car battery installation in August 2024 (top 10)
BYD's installed capacity of power batteries is 8324MWh (8.3GWh), of which 7699MWh (7.7GWh) is used by BYD's own brands, accounting for 92.5%. The rest of the batteries are supplied to Xiaomi, Xiaopeng, Kia, Denza, Hongqi, Siming, Ledao, Buick, Dongfeng, Ford, HiPhi, and Xingtu.
Gotion High-tech BEV passenger car battery installation status in August 2024 (top 10)
Guoxuan High-tech has supplied power batteries to 23 brands including Wuling, Leapmotor, Geely, Changan, Geometry, JAC, Nezha, Chery, and Ora, with a total installed capacity of 1,806MWh (1.8GWh).
Battery installation status of CSI BEV passenger cars in August 2024
China New Energy has installed power batteries for 14 brands, including Xiaopeng, Aion, Changan, Zhiji, Leapmotor, Fengshen, smart, Hycan, Zeekr, Honda, Lingbao, Fukang, Chery, and Wuling, with a total installed capacity of 1,474MWh (1.5GWh).
More and more vehicle manufacturers are no longer limited to a single battery supplier. In August, brands such as NIO, Aion, Wuling, Changan, Ruilan, Kaiyi, JAC, Maple Leaf, Dayun, Sihao, and Lingtu all chose to declare more than two battery suppliers at the same time, giving them greater autonomy in the selection of batteries in actual production.
