ETAS and BlackBerry QNX Partner to Provide Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Foundation for Software-Defined Cars

Stuttgart, Germany, Waterloo, Canada – April 10, 2024 – ETAS, a leading supplier of automotive software development solutions, and the BlackBerry QNX business unit of BlackBerry have signed an agreement to jointly sell and promote software solutions to accelerate the development of safety-critical functions for the next generation of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) . Through this new simplified resale partnership, which expands the existing long-term technology partnership between ETAS and BlackBerry, the two companies will provide pre-integrated software that provides a high-performance and secure foundation for the development of microprocessor-based vehicle computers or domain controller electronic control units (ECUs) using ETAS middleware RTA-VRTE based on AUTOSAR Adaptive and QNX® OS.
Additionally, the collaboration includes ETAS’ automotive firewall and host-based intrusion detection technologies to enable automakers and their suppliers to implement continuous security monitoring in accordance with UN-R 155 and ISO/SAE 21434 standards.

As the automotive industry shifts toward SDVs, proven basic software and AUTOSAR Adaptive standards are becoming increasingly important in providing functional safety, cyber security, and a trusted real-time operating system and hypervisor foundation. Driven by microprocessor technology, the next generation of automotive E/E architecture relies heavily on powerful onboard computers . ETAS and BlackBerry QNX software provide a solid foundation for data management, communication, mission execution, functional safety, cyber security, and flexibility, and will continue to enable automakers to deliver innovative features, enhance functional safety and cyber security, and pave the way for the future of mobility.
