Recently, we discovered from the official website of the State Intellectual Property Office that Geely Group has applied for a new patent titled "A drone charging and docking device and control system." The emergence of this technology may indicate that future new energy vehicles will be able to be charged by drones while driving. This patent was jointly applied for by Zhejiang Jikrypton Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd.

According to the patent, this new invention of Geely Group allows drones to find moving cars through GPS positioning, and after obtaining real-time speed information of the vehicle, the drone can fly at the same speed as the vehicle. Furthermore, the drone can use relevant technologies to accurately dock with the vehicle, and then "connect" to the car through a strong magnetic base. The drone can provide power to the car and achieve charging during driving.

Developers believe that the emergence of this technology will alleviate the battery life anxiety of new energy vehicle owners due to incomplete charging network coverage. Although there are currently charging devices such as mobile electric vehicles and drones, these devices can only be charged when the vehicle is stationary. Geely's new patent can solve the charging problem while driving and further improve the user experience.

However, for drone users, drone battery capacity has always been a problem. Small drones generally can only fly for tens of minutes before the battery needs to be replaced. If a drone is used to charge a car, the drone itself must be equipped with a large battery and an additional energy storage device to power the car. This may make the drone too heavy and cannot be used for electric cars. How much power will be replenished is still unknown.

Nevertheless, Geely Group's application for this patent does not mean that it will definitely be used in new cars. It is more likely that Geely will use this technology as a reserve for when the technology matures in a certain period of time in the future. Or, Geely Group may use this patented idea to invent other more practical ways of replenishing energy. What problems do you think will be encountered when docking and charging drones in the air?
