Recently, according to NVIDIA officials, NVIDIA is expanding its autonomous driving team in China. Recruitment position information shows that the positions involved include 25 positions in five departments: autonomous driving software group, autonomous driving platform group, system integration & testing group, map & simulation group, and product group. The working locations are Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Judging from the job description, this recruitment mainly focuses on autonomous driving software, algorithms and product positions.

The NVIDIA Autonomous Driving team is dedicated to building artificial intelligence drive systems for automated and self-driving vehicles . Their DRIVE ecosystem includes hundreds of automakers, truck manufacturers, shuttle companies, Tier1 manufacturers, sensor manufacturers, software companies, mapping companies and startups, providing comprehensive solutions from data centers to single-architecture vehicles .

It is worth noting that the team is led by Wu Xinzhou, who resigned as Xiaopeng’s vice president in charge of autonomous driving business in August this year.

"Why did Lao Huang choose Wu Xinzhou?

According to the data, Wu Xinzhou graduated from Tsinghua University with a bachelor's degree, and later received a master's and doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From January 2006 to November 2018, Wu Xinzhou worked for Qualcomm , in autonomous driving, precise positioning and mapping, and Internet of Vehicles . , communications and wireless networks ; joined Xpeng Motors in March 2019, fully led Xpeng's autonomous driving technology path and implementation, and built the core team and structure of intelligent driving; in August 2023, Wu Xinzhou joined NVIDIA and was responsible for leadership NVIDIA autonomous driving China team.

Previously, various questions kept popping up in the NVIDIA intranet community. What caused heated discussion was this photo of three people taken in the NVIDIA building. In the photo, He Xiaopeng, Wu Xinzhou, and Huang Renxun were all smiling.

He Xiaopeng sent Wu Xinzhou off thousands of miles away, and Huang Renxun was delighted to add a powerful general. Wu Xinzhou, who was standing between the two of them, had a heavy burden on his body.

According to public information, Wu Xinzhou is currently the vice president of Nvidia’s automotive business and reports directly to Huang Renxun.

At present, he should be responsible for the autonomous driving software algorithm, research and development and implementation. Wu Xinzhou also put forward requirements for job seekers’ abilities:

Must have a strong background in the professional field; strong self-motivation and pursuit of excellence in technology and products; identify and adapt to NVIDIA's diversified work environment, and have good communication willingness and ability to communicate with colleagues from different backgrounds;

Why should we vigorously develop autonomous driving in China?

Nvidia's opening of so many positions in China at one time is equivalent to a direct official announcement: Nvidia will develop autonomous driving in China.

It’s just that Nvidia, already a giant in autonomous driving chips , is increasing its efforts in China at this time?

Nvidia's large-scale recruitment of autonomous driving talents in China shows that they will vigorously develop autonomous driving technology in the Chinese market. This move may also be because China's autonomous driving field has reached an important turning point, and the introduction of policies has provided legality and support for L3 and L4 autonomous vehicles to go on the road.

As one of the world's largest new energy vehicle and smart vehicle markets, China's demand for autonomous driving technology continues to grow. In addition, NVIDIA's competitive pressure in the Chinese market is also increasing. The decline in market share means that it needs to re-propose more cost-effective and powerful solutions to cope with competition.

Not only that, China has a huge reserve of autonomous driving talents, and the quality and quantity of talents are supporting the development of this field. Therefore, NVIDIA hopes to provide more comprehensive autonomous driving solutions by expanding its team and introducing new talents.

Although Nvidia has made outstanding achievements in the field of autonomous driving chips, its progress in autonomous driving systems has been relatively slow. The recruitment expansion may be to fill the shortcomings in this area. Under the leadership of Wu Xinzhou, what kind of autonomous driving solutions NVIDIA will provide in the future is also a common concern in the industry.
