Recently, the power battery projects of CATL and BYD have made new progress.

Ningde Times joint venture project obtained construction land planning permit

On September 12, the Natural Resources and Planning Bureau of Liyang City, Jiangsu Province issued the construction land planning permit for the Era SAIC Advanced Power Battery Industrialization Project (Phase II).

It is understood that the total investment of the project is approximately 12 billion yuan, with a planned production capacity of 12GWh. Multiple advanced power battery production lines and Pack lines will be constructed and are expected to be completed in 2024.

As early as 2016, CATL “settled” in Liyang. In June of that year, Jiangsu Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of CATL, was registered and established in Liyang with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan.

In September of the same year, Ningde Times joined hands with the Liyang Municipal Government to lay out its first tens of billions of projects in the high-tech zone and started construction of a Yangtze River Delta power battery production and R&D base with a production capacity of 50GWh.

In 2017, CATL teamed up with SAIC to further expand its presence in Liyang.

In June of this year, two joint ventures, Times SAIC and SAIC Times, were registered and established. Among them, Times SAIC has a registered capital of 2 billion yuan, CATL holds 51% of the shares, and SAIC Management (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor) holds 49% of the shares. They are the battery companies of both parties.

SAIC Times has a registered capital of 300 million yuan. SAIC Management holds 51% of the shares and CATL holds 49%. It is a battery PACK joint venture between the two parties.

Since the establishment of Era SAIC and SAIC Era, the cooperation between the two parties in the field of power batteries has rapidly heated up. Reports at the time pointed out that the first phase of the project of the two companies planned a total investment of 10 billion yuan, which would form a power battery production capacity of 18GWh and was scheduled to be put into production at the end of 2018. In addition, the power battery system project is scheduled to be put into production in June 2018. It is expected that by 2020, the joint venture will have a power battery production capacity of 36GWh.

In February 2021, Ningde Times announced that Times SAIC plans to invest in the Times SAIC power battery production line expansion project in Liyang City. The total investment will not exceed 10.5 billion yuan, and the planned production capacity may reach 35GWh. The project will be constructed in two phases.

On June 18, the SAIC Era and Era SAIC Advanced Power Battery Industrialization Project (Phase II), with a total investment of approximately 12 billion yuan, started construction in Liyang High-tech Zone and is expected to be completed in 2024.

In December, SAIC Motor responded to investors' questions and stated that the first phase of SAIC's completed production capacity has reached 26GWh. Considering that the production capacity exceeds demand, it has started the construction of the second phase of the 16GWh battery cell production line and plans to complete and put into production by the end of 2022.

In addition to the above-mentioned existing layout, Weike.com Lithium Battery noticed that in May this year, Liyang Runkai New Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Liyang Runkai New Energy"), the "direct grandson company" of CATL, was officially established.

The legal representative of Liyang Runkai New Energy is Yang Zhengju, with a registered capital of 10 million yuan. Its business scope includes: power generation business; power transmission business; power supply (distribution) business; engineering and technology research and experimental development; energy storage technology services, etc.

Shareholder information shows that Runkai New Energy is 100% owned by Times Green Energy Co., Ltd., which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ningde Times.

The establishment of Liyang Runkai New Energy means that CATL will have a further layout in Liyang. Inferred from the business scope, the future development direction of Liyang Runkai New Energy is mostly related to electric energy.

BYD Xuzhou power battery project capped

On August 31, Xuzhou Jinfu New Energy Project held a topping-out event for the steel structure of the main factory building.

It is reported that this project is a power battery project under BYD, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, a total construction area of 329,900 square meters, and the construction of 26 individual buildings and supporting facilities such as industrial plants, testing centers, and energy centers. It is mainly engaged in new energy commercial vehicles. , construction machinery and other supporting blade batteries and related core product production, energy storage and power battery cascade utilization, etc., to create a new energy power battery strategic base. After the first phase of the project reaches production, it is expected to achieve an annual power battery output of 15GWh.

On November 8 last year, BYD established a strategic partnership with the Xuzhou Municipal Government. Its power battery subsidiary Fudi Battery signed a cooperation agreement with Xugong Group and plans to build a new power battery factory in the Xuzhou Economic Development Zone.

On January 4 this year, BYD laid the foundation for its new energy power battery production base in Xuzhou to build a blade battery production line. It is planned that part of the production line will be put into operation in December 2023.

On March 29, Fudi Battery and XCMG Group jointly established "Xuzhou XCMG Fudi Battery Technology Co., Ltd." with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. Its business scope includes: battery manufacturing; battery sales; recycling and secondary utilization of used power batteries for new energy vehicles. wait.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to the lithium battery project ushering in new progress. Weike.com Lithium Battery also noticed that BYD also established a sodium battery production base in Xuzhou Economic Development Zone this year.

On June 8, Huaihai Holding Group and Fudi Battery signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the BYD headquarters in Shenzhen. The two parties will jointly build a sodium battery production base in the Xuzhou Economic Development Zone in the form of a joint venture to jointly create the world's largest sodium battery system supporting system for mini-cars. business.
