Samsung Electronics today announced its first ultra-wideband (UWB) solution, the Exynos Connect U100.
Samsung Electronics said the new ultra-wideband (UWB) solution is optimized for mobile, automotive and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, improving measurement accuracy to single-digit centimeters to provide accurate distance and location information.
In addition, Samsung unveiled “Exynos Connect,” a new brand for short-range wireless communication solutions such as Ultra Wideband, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which Samsung said are critical in today’s increasingly connected world.
According to reports, ultra-wideband (UWB) is a short-range wireless communication technology that works on a wide spectrum and can achieve fast data transmission with low power. With its ability to capture high-precision spatial and directional data, ultra-wideband is becoming increasingly popular in various industries such as remote payment, smart keys, smart homes and smart factories.
Samsung Electronics' Exynos Connect U100 uses time of arrival (ToA) and 3D angle of arrival (AoA) ranging to provide single-digit centimeters and less than 5 degrees of accuracy. At the same time, the new U100 integrates radio frequency (RF), baseband, embedded flash (eFlash) memory and power management IP into a single chip.
Samsung Electronics pointed out that with the support of energy-saving mode, U100 can extend the battery life of mobile and automotive solutions and IoT devices such as smart tracking devices with limited battery capacity. For reliable communication, U100 is also equipped with a scrambled timestamp sequence (STS) function and a secure and reliable hardware encryption engine to prevent external hacking.
Currently, Samsung Exynos Connect U100 has been certified by the FiRa (Precision Ranging) Alliance. U100 also complies with the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) Digital Key 3.0 standard, which is designed to store, verify and share digital keys for vehicles.
