On January 10, Suzuki and Canadian company Inmotive reached a cooperation agreement to jointly develop two-speed transmissions for electric vehicles (EVs).
Inmotive is a start-up company established in Toronto, Canada in 2010. The "Ingear" they are developing is a lightweight, compact, high-efficiency two-speed transmission with a unique design that helps improve the motor drive of electric vehicles. performance.
This cooperation has reached a consensus on the joint development of "two-speed transmission for EV". It is expected to extend the cruising range of electric vehicles through high-efficiency motor drive, reduce costs through miniaturization of electric drive devices, and improve driving performance in various driving situations. .
Ingear replaces the traditional two gears with a continuously driven deformable gear, so power is not interrupted even when shifting gears. Experimental data shows that using the Ingear transmission can increase vehicle range by 7.1% (WLTP-3 operating conditions).
Suzuki will continue to strive to provide customers with affordable and easy-to-use mobility (transportation) by building relationships with companies with unique technologies in various fields and accelerating the development of necessary technologies.
