According to foreign media reports, at the 2022 German International Transportation Expo (IAA Transportation 2022), Canadian hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer Loop Energy launched a new 120kW fuel cell system. The company said that this new product is expected to achieve the same fuel price as diesel engines.

The S1200 system builds on Loop Energy’s existing technology and delivers an additional 20% efficiency gain in generating electricity, achieving a net system efficiency of up to 60%.

When powering electric vehicles , the system can deliver up to 54% fuel-to-wheel efficiency thanks to the patented eFlow fuel cell architecture. Typically, the fuel-to-wheel efficiency of a regular diesel engine is only 20-25%. Specifically, Loop Energy uses a signature trapezoidal plate with narrow channels in the bipolar plate, which increases the velocity of the gas down the plate, providing excellent fuel efficiency and power output.
For fleet managers, commercial vehicle operators and the wider hydrogen infrastructure market, this means less hydrogen fuel used per kilometer traveled, reducing the total cost of ownership of hydrogen-electric commercial vehicles.
The S1200 is designed for medium to heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Compared with the company's other fuel cell products, the power range and driving range have been improved. As a complete fuel cell system, it can simplify and speed up the integration speed of vehicle OEMs and become a ready-made solution for heavy-duty transportation and power system applications.
