We all know that passenger safety protection has always been an important research and development for major automakers since the development of automobiles. From the beginning, cars only had seat belts to now have vehicle rigidity, engine collapse, and pedestrian protection. Some vehicles even use safety configuration as one of their selling points. Recently, Chery Automobile has a new "invention".
According to news, on September 6, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. announced a patent for "Automobile Separate Ejection Seat and Vehicle", which shows that the automobile separate ejection seat includes a seat body, a connection mechanism, an ejection mechanism and a controller. The principle of this device is that when the controller receives a collision signal exceeding the set value, the ejection mechanism will eject the upper seat upward into the air.
The purpose of this invention is to allow passengers to quickly leave the vehicle in the event of a collision, avoid secondary injuries and reduce the probability of casualties, thus achieving the human-vehicle invention to the greatest extent possible.
In this regard, I admire Chery's invention very much. After all, I have seen this kind of scene in 007 action movies. But the problem is that one more mechanism on the car will increase the probability of damage. Suppose that when the car collides, the device is activated before the ejection seat is required, or the device is triggered by mistake during normal driving, there will be certain safety hazards. And the repair is very, very expensive, which reminds me of Honda's "hood door"!
Everyone knows that Japanese brands pay great attention to pedestrian protection. Many Japanese cars use materials with good energy absorption on the front of the car to protect pedestrians to a certain extent in the event of a collision. However, the Honda Accord, which was once the best-selling B-class car , caused a " hood door" incident.
According to an owner of the tenth-generation Accord, he was driving back to his hometown and accidentally hit a free-range chicken when entering the village. As a result, his Accord's pedestrian protection system was activated and the hood popped up, which meant he had to spend more than 10,000 yuan on repairs.
It is understood that Honda's pedestrian protection system uses the hood pop-up technology to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision. When a collision occurs, the vehicle's hood pop-up control module automatically activates to protect pedestrians. However, at present, the trigger rate of this pedestrian protection system is still quite high. In order to avoid high repair costs, some users will choose to go to the repair shop to touch or block the device.
Honda's pedestrian protection device is very sensitive, but it is precisely because of this sensitivity that car owners have begun to block it. Will Chery, which has no experience in this area, be more prone to mistakes?
Comments from Jieche: I think that Chery's seat ejection device is more for improving safety. It can be said that today's car companies are very inward-looking, and competing on the number of airbags can no longer attract consumers. Although the starting point of the device is good, if the ejection seat is really to be realized, does it mean that the roof must also be improved? At that time, the repair cost of the false trigger is likely to be more than 10,000 yuan.
Finally, if Chery really wants to install this device on mass-produced models, it should do some testing and consider more emergencies instead of just selling the configuration.
