Recently, the Stellantis Group, which owns brands such as Jeep, Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot, and Alfa Romeo, has chosen to use Valeo's third-generation lidar to equip a variety of models of its brands starting in 2024. Valeo's third-generation lidar will enable these models to obtain L3 autonomous driving certification, which can safely free the driver's hands and eyes.

Valeo's third-generation LiDAR can recognize everything, even if the object is far ahead and invisible to the human eye. It can identify objects that cannot be detected by the human eye, camera and millimeter-wave radar at a distance of 150 meters, such as small objects with very low reflectivity (tire dropped on the road, etc.). It uses point clouds to recreate a 3D image of the vehicle's surroundings with unparalleled resolution in automotive systems, and can map ground topology and detect road markings.

Valeo LiDAR also has embedded high-performance software based on artificial intelligence algorithms, enabling it to control the vehicle's trajectory and predict obstacle-free areas on the road ahead. When its field of vision becomes blurred, it can self-diagnose and trigger its cleaning system. Like all LiDARs launched by Valeo, this technology is automotive-grade, which means that the data it generates is completely reliable and accurate under any conditions of use and weather conditions (-40 to +85°C). It is a key component in the sensor system that enables vehicles to obtain conditional autonomous driving (Level 3) certification from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and meet the regulatory requirements of UN-R157.

Valeo's third-generation LiDAR makes driving safer and gives drivers free time in troublesome driving situations, such as driving at low and medium speeds in traffic jams. These are the core issues that Stellantis and Valeo are working together to solve. Through data collection capabilities, this LiDAR will provide customers with new services.
