According to foreign media reports, AEye, a supplier of adaptive high-performance lidar solutions, demonstrated the revolutionary design of its 4Sight™ intelligent sensing platform at the AutoSens Detroit 2022, the International Automotive Sensor Show in Detroit, USA. The platform enables automotive OEMs to embed the same lidar sensor in multiple integration locations and use AEye's proprietary sensing software to optimize the performance of vehicle-specific packaging and integration. With AEye's adaptive lidar, automakers can gain more design flexibility without compromising performance, further advancing the pursuit of software-defined cars.

The 4Sight platform can utilize a single platform, be configured through software, and display in multiple installation locations, so automakers can gain complete vehicle design and aesthetic flexibility. Compared with hardware-centric lidar systems that do not adapt to OEM performance and integration requirements, the 4Sight platform has higher design advantages. In addition, the inherent software configurability of the 4Sight platform is designed to enable OTA updates, thereby improving the vehicle's autonomous driving safety features over time without replacing sensors.

“AEye customers gain the unique advantage of a single platform that is modified for all vehicle models and applications, increasing adoption and deployment across OEM platforms and reducing engineering costs,” said Jordan Greene, AEye co-founder and general manager of automotive business. “Moving AEye sensor hardware from one location on a vehicle to another does not require mechanical adjustments, as the sensor’s performance parameters can be configured through simple software operations.”

As automakers move toward software-driven business models, they are looking to software-defined hardware to absorb new technologies and deploy new innovative services. AEye’s adaptive sensor platform can be configured by software for different vehicle layouts, use cases, and markets to help OEMs realize their vision of smart assets and software-defined vehicles.
