CATL's third-generation CTP (Kirin battery) technology is here. With the same battery pack size, the Kirin battery pack can increase its power by 13% compared to the 4680 system.
At the 2022 China Electric Vehicle 100 Conference, Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL, said that CATL has launched the third-generation CTP technology through continuous technological iteration, which is internally called Kirin battery.
He said that the Kirin battery system's weight, energy density and volume energy density continue to lead the industry's highest level. Under the same chemical system and the same battery pack size, the Kirin battery pack's power can be increased by 13% compared to the 4680 system.
In fact, after NCM811, 4680 led by Tesla has become a newcomer in the industry. Before this, many suppliers and car companies have expressed their intention to adopt this battery. For this reason, some industry organizations predict that 4680 will become the mainstream direction for a period of time.
Musk has introduced the technological leadership of this battery on many occasions. Now 4680 has not yet been mass-produced, and CATL says it already has better technological products.
In addition, CATL also announced its latest heat-free diffusion technology.
CATL said that in September 2020, CATL was the first to achieve athermal diffusion on its 811 products. After that, some car companies and battery companies have successively launched their own athermal diffusion technologies. Currently, athermal diffusion technology has become the mainstream of the industry. After CATL's athermal diffusion technology for the 8 series products goes into mass production in 2020, the athermal diffusion technology with a higher specific energy of 1000km will also be mass-produced in 2023.
In addition, there are media reports that Wu Kai said in his speech that a year ago, Mr. Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of CATL, proposed for the first time in the industry that power batteries will enter the TWh era in the next five years.
At the time, this judgment was radical and bold, but in 2021, the development speed of global new energy vehicles exceeded many people's expectations. Based on the forecasts of authoritative organizations including South Korea's SNE and Bloomberg, the TWh era will really come before 2025.
