According to foreign media reports, Our Next Energy (ONE), a battery startup in Michigan, said that the company has tested a new battery prototype Gemini on the Tesla Model S. This battery can enable the Model S to travel 752 miles (about 1,210 kilometers) on a single charge.
ONE is focused on developing an advanced long-range battery using safer, more sustainable materials while packing more energy into a smaller, cheaper package.
Regarding ONE's Gemini battery, ONE founder and CEO Mujeeb Ijaz said, "We want to remove the two raw materials of nickel and cobalt in the battery, but we don't want to give up energy density. Our goal is to reinvent battery chemistry and battery structure" to provide electric vehicles with a range of at least 750 miles.
The ONE's range target far exceeds that of the best electric vehicles currently available , including the Lucid Air, which has a range of just over 500 miles.
Ijaz said the company plans to start producing electric vehicle battery packs by the end of 2023, with a range roughly twice that of existing electric vehicles. "We plan to produce the battery in North America, and we believe it can be commercialized," Ijaz said in an interview.

Ijaz also said that ONE chose the Tesla Model S to demonstrate its battery prototype because "the efficiency of this car is quite high and the battery pack is quite large" to accommodate ONE's battery. ONE said that at the end of December last year, the company completed a road test of an electric vehicle equipped with this battery in Michigan, with an average speed of 55 miles per hour.
It is reported that Ijaz has served as an executive at Apple and US battery company A123 Systems. He has led a team to develop electric vehicle battery systems and has 30 years of industry experience.
