GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd.'s new electric vehicles use
Nidec's drive motor system "E-Axle" (100kW)
The new pure electric vehicle "Aion Y" (*1) launched by GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. in March 2021 adopts the "Ni100Ex" (100kW) of Nidec's (Nidec) drive motor system "E-Axle".
GAC Aion's predecessor was GAC New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., which was established in 2017. It is a brand under GAC Group that specializes in electric vehicles. In December 2018, the company built a new electric vehicle factory with an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles and is actively investing in it. (The company name was changed to its current name in November 2020)
The new electric car "Aion Y" launched in March 2021 is the fourth model in the company's electric vehicle brand "Aion" series. It adopts an all-aluminum pure electric exclusive platform developed by the company. It is also equipped with a 5G smart cockpit system, automatic parking system, and China's high-precision map-based autonomous driving system "ADiGO 2.0" and many other new technologies.
Nidec's "Ni100Ex" (maximum power 100kW, maximum system output torque: 2400Nm) is the second product in the E-Axle series, and mass production of the product began in November 2020. Precision small motors are the company's flagship products, and the structure of the thin and short motor uses the proprietary magnetic circuit design technology established in the development process of precision small motors, as well as permanent magnets and a unique oil cooling structure. The "Ni100Ex" has achieved miniaturization by adopting this thin and short motor, and the use of the second-generation inverter has greatly contributed to the improvement of the vehicle's power performance, power consumption performance, sound and vibration performance, and the reduction of vehicle weight. This product is produced by Guangzhou Nidec Automotive Drive System Co., Ltd., which was established in November 2019 (the company is a joint venture between GAC Parts Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangzhou Automobile Group, and Nidec).
Nidec's "E-Axle" is a unit system that integrates a motor, inverter, and reducer. Its small size and light weight are the main features of this product. Since April 2019, Nidec has developed the world's first mass-produced "Ni150Ex" (150kW) as a Tier 1 supplier, and the "Ni100Ex" (100kW) has begun mass production since November 2020. In addition, the "Ni200Ex", "Ni70Ex", and "Ni50Ex" are still in the development stage. With this world-class product lineup, we can meet various installation needs for A to E-class vehicles. Nidec's goal is to obtain a 40-45% share of the global electric vehicle dedicated drive motor market (*2) by 2030, and "E-Axle" will play a leading role in this. (By the end of February 2021, production had exceeded 120,000 units)
In the future, Nidec will continue to develop products that incorporate lightweight, short, high-efficiency and control technologies as a powerful global integrated motor manufacturer, and provide innovative solutions to promote the rapid development of automobiles.
(*1) The same “E-Axle” is also used in the Aion-Y Pio, the commercial model of the Aion-Y.
(*2) As of April 1, 2021, the models and installation models that have adopted "E-Axle" are as follows (in order of launch):
①GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Aion S (Ni150Ex, some models are equipped with Ni100Ex)
②GAC Toyota Motor iA5 (Ni150Ex)
③GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Aion LX (Ni150Ex)
④GAC NIO New Energy Automobile Technology HYCAN 007 (Ni150Ex)
⑤Geely Automobile Geometry C (Ni150Ex)
⑥GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Aion V (Ni150Ex)
⑦ Guangqi Honda Automobile EA6 (Ni150Ex)
⑧GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Aion Y (Ni100Ex)
