On March 15, Volkswagen held its first "Power Day" and introduced its battery and charging technology roadmap to 2030. By 2025, Volkswagen will launch 25 MEB platform models in China, and annual sales of new energy products will reach 1.5 million. In terms of technology, Volkswagen has developed an intelligent "standard battery cell" with a simpler structure, which reduces the cost of mass production by 30%, and the cost of entry-level models by 50%. It will be installed in Volkswagen's models starting in 2023, and will cover more than 80% of the group's models in 2030.

In addition, Volkswagen has also laid out plans for lithium iron phosphate, high manganese, nickel cobalt manganese, solid-state batteries, etc. Volkswagen also plans to build and put into production 6 battery factories with partners around the world by 2030, with a total production capacity of 240GWh. The first factory is the Northvolt Ett super factory in Skellefte, Sweden, with a production capacity of 40GWh, and the second super factory is the Salzgitter factory in Germany, with a production capacity of 40GWh.

In terms of charging network layout, Volkswagen subsidiary Electrify America plans to build about 3,500 fast-charging stations in North America by the end of 2021. By 2025, Volkswagen will build 17,000 fast-charging stations in China through the CAMS joint venture; and will also build 18,000 fast-charging stations in Europe. Volkswagen even proposed a vision of free charging in the future.

In addition, Volkswagen also plans to apply electric vehicles as "mobile power sources" to home, commercial and even public energy systems; by storing excess green electricity (solar energy, wind energy) in the vehicle and reversely supplying power through a two-way wall-mounted charging system. Taking the ID.3 as an example, it can provide more than 5 days of electricity for an average family. Starting in 2022, Volkswagen's MEB platform models will be equipped with this technology and provide a complete set of intelligent service systems from two-way wall-mounted boxes to power management, which will be applied on a large scale soon.
