According to foreign media reports, Detroit Engineered Products (DEP), a company with professional engine design and R&D capabilities, has announced the launch of an advanced IC (internal combustion engine) sensor that is said to help improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines while reducing emissions.

According to DEP, these IC sensors can be used in real-time as timing sensors, combustion sensors, performance sensors, emissions sensors and pressure sensors, providing accurate and reliable results on an engine cylinder-by-cylinder and cycle-by-cycle basis.
The company said the sensor is suitable for on-board engine diagnostics and can predict combustion, performance and engine emissions, outperforming pressure sensors. In addition, injectors or spark plugs or glow plugs can be used as sensors without drilling a hole in the cylinder head, so such sensors can be easily integrated into existing electronically controlled gasoline and diesel engines.
DEP's sensor portfolio includes both hardware and software, namely multiple sensors, a black box controller to process the sensor signals, and a diagnostic toolkit to display the data and perform diagnostics.
The internal combustion engine sensor can perform multiple sensing tasks and manage the engine in real time by providing feedback to the engine's electronic control system. Compared with pressure sensors, the mass production cost and maintenance cost of such sensors are lower. In addition, the sensor also provides remote monitoring and diagnostic functions, which helps reduce the inspection and maintenance costs during the engine life cycle.
