What is Matter? Let’s take a look.
Matter is the new standard and foundation for connected things. The stated goal of this collaboration is to "simplify development for manufacturers and increase compatibility for consumers." Building on top of IP, Matter aims to enable communication between smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services by defining a specific set of IP-based network technologies for device certification.
Matter is more like a new aggregation standard than a new network standard. Essentially, it brings together different elements of existing IoT standards. The current IoT is served by multiple competing standards such as Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy, and Thread, used in Apple HomeKit, Samsung Smart Things, Google Nest and Amazon Alexa, each of which represents a different ecosystem. This fragmentation of technical standards mixed in different ways in multiple independent ecosystems has prevented the IoT from realizing its potential. For this reason, consumers are also waiting for a unified standard. Because without it, the smart home is just a set of incoherent, independent, special-purpose applications, each of which cannot use each other's data or availability.
Motion sensors are a classic example because so many different applications use them. In today’s fragmented application world, a motion sensor in an alarm system cannot communicate with a sensor that turns on a light or a sensor that triggers a heating/cooling system.
Matter is great news. It was established by the Connectivity Standard Alliance (formerly Zigbee Alliance), the Thread Alliance, in collaboration with Amazon, Apple, Google, and Samsung, with the goal of integrating different components such as Zigbee, Thread, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi into one overall standard.
Three videos to help you understand Matter
Benefiting developers: The unified smart home standard Matter makes it easy for developers to build devices that can be used in any ecosystem once, and the development process is easier than ever before.
The multi-source management function (Multi Admin) allows users to connect devices to any Matter-supported ecosystem, set which systems to share with each device, and easily add multiple devices to a new ecosystem to start a new experience.

Multi-tenant system: Matter can provide large-scale solutions for property builders, managers and all tenants and integrate with existing IP-based property management application platforms to achieve efficient operation and maintenance management through real-time visible property data and reduce operating costs.
